Kim West is a painter and accidental muralist.
West's studio practice engages memories - creating fractured realities that pin down wisps of ether and bridge gaps. Washy landscapes and loosely rendered, color-forward botanical motifs become allegorical events. The NY Times has called West's mural work, "dreamlike," and in scope, her public murals range from small scenes rendered on intimate corners to filling the expanse of 5-story-high building façades.
West's work is collected and commissioned by everyday people, art collectors, celebrities, corporations, galleries, and educational institutions. West's mural work can easily be found in Los Angeles, California (West Hollywood City Hall, Hauser Wirth Gallery, LAX), as well as in countless films, television shows, commercials, music videos, and ubiquitously in instagram-user selfies.
Founded in 1985 by choreographer Heidi Duckler, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre has created memorable dance experiences in extraordinary locations for three decades. Called the “reigning queen of site specific performance” by the LA Times, Duckler is dedicated to building audiences for the arts, especially in underserved communities. HDDT creates contemporary art experiences in nontraditional places and learning opportunities in diverse neighborhoods that redefine the relationship between audience and art through the cultivation of innovative partnerships. As the company begins its 30th anniversary season, expect Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre in unexpected places.
Heidi Duckler has created more than 200 dance pieces all over the world. Awards include a City of LA Department of Cultural Affairs COLA Award, California Arts Council Choreography Fellowship and National Endowment of the Arts American Masterpiece award.
Davy Sumner is an installation artist and experimental musician from Los Angeles CA, and Eau Claire, WI. He creates things that are inspired by the natural world, noise, geometry, and society, often utilizing sound spatialization, feedback-based systems, chaos, and technology as his compositional elements.
